Closing the gap for indigenous medial specialists

This website is intended particularly for Indigenous medical undergraduates and graduates to help them in choosing a medical specialty in their professional career path and to assist them to achieve their career aims. The website also will report the progress of the various aspects of the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges (CPMC) project.

Compared to non-Indigenous doctors, there are very few Indigenous doctors working as Specialists in Australia. Bearing this in mind, the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges, with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, has created the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical Specialist Framework Project. The Project aims to increase the number of Indigenous medical specialists, in partnership with the Australia Indigenous Doctors’ Association, the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and the medical specialist Colleges operating in Australia. There are currently 15 medical specialist Colleges which provide vocational training across Australia.

This site provides information on the Project and useful links to and brief information about the different medical specialist Colleges involved in specialist training.
